Governance
Founded in 1997, MISA (Mahindra International School Academy formerly under the name Mercedes-Benz Education Academy) is registered as a trust and a society/charity and is not for profit. The Trust receives a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Education to operate the school.
The Managing Committee (Board of Trustees) is self-perpetuating and is made up of professionals with commitment to the Mission and Vision of the school. 5 members are nominated from the KC Mahindra Educational Trust and the other members can be nominated from various stakeholder communities. There are 3 official office bearers; President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Our Board of Trustees volunteer to provide direction in governance, strategy and fiduciary oversight.
Guiding Principles of the Board of Trustees (Managing Committee)
All members of the Managing Committee of the Mahindra International School shall:
- Be motivated by an earnest desire to serve MIS and the children it educates;
- Maintain a student focus in all decision-making;
- Be accountable for the financial well-being of MIS;
- Be responsible to MIS rather than any individual group or agenda;
- Establish, in partnership with MIS’s Director, priorities and policies for MIS which are consistent with MIS’s Mission and Vision;
- Recognize that legal authority rests with the Board, not any individual member;
- Honor majority decisions once made.
The School Director is an ex-officio member of the Board. The Primary and Secondary Principals are permanent invitees to the Board meetings. The PTA President and Staff representative are invited to attend all Board of Trustees meetings and form an important channel of communication between the parent body, the faculty and the Board.
The Director serves as the conduit of communication between the school community and the Trust, Mahindra International School Academy.
Zhooben Bhiwandiwala, President
Zhooben has been with the Mahindra group since 1985 and currently Executive Director & CEO – Mahindra Holdings Limited. He is a professionally qualified Chartered Accountant. Zhooben joined the Mahindra International School board of trustees since 2020.
Milind Kulkarni, Treasurer
Milind has 40 years of experience in Finance and General Management. He has retired from his role as CFO of Tech Mahindra LTD. Post his retirement, he continue to advise Tech Mahindra on tax laws. He holds degrees in Commerce and is a Chartered Accountant. Member since 2019.
Sheetal Mehta, Secretary
Sheetal joined the Mahindra group in 1982 in the field of marketing. She is the Executive Director of KCMET and heavily involved in the CSR architecture for the Mahindra group. Member since 2019.
Gaurav Chopra, Member
Gaurav is an alumnus of UWC-USA, and believes that the UWC movement encompasses education as a force to unite people, as well as co-exist symbiotically. Gaurav is an artist and performer. He is currently the Head of College at MUWCI. He works in the music, advertising and production industry. Member since 2019.
Radhika Nath, Member
Radhika Nath is an Executive Board member of Mumbai First, a nonpartisan body working with civil society, professionals, and captains of industry to improve the quality of life and investment in the city. Radhika is passionate about education and saving the environment. She is an active member of the Governing Council for Mahindra schools and drives a number of their educational initiatives. Member since 2022.
Ines Kavamura, Member
A graduate of UWC of Southern Africa in Eswatini (then Swaziland), Ines serves on several not-for-profit boards including the Mahindra United World College. Recently, she has been using her post graduation teaching experience, allied with her international background to bring innovative approaches to elementary, middle and high school education in the USA, where her children are being educated. Member since 2020.
Štěpán Lacina, Member of the Board – HR & People Services
Štěpán Lacina serves as Executive Director of HR & People Services at SAVWIPL, bringing over 18 years of global experience in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Compliance, and Internal Communication. Throughout his career at Škoda Auto, he has been instrumental in shaping workforce strategies for more than 35,000 employees worldwide, while leading high-performing HR teams and driving transformational initiatives.
A strategic people leader, Štěpán has been pivotal in designing and implementing solutions that balance efficiency with employee engagement, strengthen organizational capabilities, and build future-ready workplaces. His expertise spans across all HR Verticals, with a special mention to HR planning, social relations, compensation and benefits, and HR compliance, ensuring alignment between business priorities and people strategies.
Štěpán holds a degree in International Marketing and Management from Škoda Auto University and continues to champion a solutions-oriented approach to leadership
Ms. Sulajja Firodia Motwani
Ms. Sulajja Firodia is the Founder & CEO of Kinetic Green Energy, a leading Indian manufacturer of Electric Three and Two-wheelers. She has received numerous accolades for her contributions, including the World Economic Forum’s “Young Global Leader” designation, “India’s Most Powerful Women” award, and the FICCI FLO’s Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2021. An MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, Sulajja is a fitness enthusiast, national-level badminton player, and adventure sports lover. Member since 2024.
