Mahindra International School celebrated a significant milestone on September 9th—the 25th anniversary of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). As the first school in India and the 21st in the world to adopt the PYP on September 8, 1999, this celebration was one for the history books! The day was filled with joy, learning, and sweet treats like chocolate brownies and ice cream.

The Early Years (EY1) learners kicked off the celebrations by listening to *Join in and Play* by Cheri J Meiners. This delightful story focused on important social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and communicating. After the story, students demonstrated these skills by illustrating how they practice them during play. Most chose to bring their ideas to life through colorful illustrations.

EY2 students dove into a reflective activity that focused on the learner profile attributes of risk-taker and caring. They shared personal stories of how they’ve embodied these traits in their own lives. The activity provided an opportunity for self-reflection and allowed students to appreciate these qualities in their peers. Additionally, the class began creating a list of 25 things they love about MIS, in true celebratory fashion!

The P2 learners celebrated by listening to the story *Pezzettino* by Leo Lionni during their Information Literacy lesson. The tale, about a little piece on a journey of self-discovery, resonated with the students as they identified key learner profile attributes in the story. They worked in pairs to create word clouds representing these attributes, sparking insightful discussions on self-discovery and belonging.
P1 students explored the PYP by engaging in group activities focused on the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and the learner profile attributes. Their station-based activities deepened their understanding of the PYP’s core concepts, fostering collaboration and critical thinking.

EY3 learners excitedly engaged with the classic tale of *Jack and the Beanstalk*, making connections between the story and the learner profile attributes. After reading, they constructed a beanstalk using natural materials and practiced measuring it with a tape measure, all while comparing the storybook to the film version.
Across all grades, the day was a wonderful reflection of the school’s commitment to the PYP, and every activity allowed learners to engage with the programme in creative and meaningful ways. Here’s to 25 years of inspiring young minds!
