Currently the MYP3 students are exploring interdisciplinary unit through the subject lens of Music and Integrated Humanities. They participated in an engaging session that highlighted the significant role of culture in the evolution of music. The event featured guest speaker Mr. Varun Vishvesh from ‘Innovent Drum Circles,’ who shared insights into how women historically contributed to the ‘creation of rhythm’ while performing their daily household tasks.

During the session, Mr. Varun demonstrated a piece inspired by West African music using the Djembe, an important percussion instrument. He also discussed the instrument’s origins, explaining how it was originally crafted from local materials, including goat skin and bala wood.

The students actively engaged in learning about polyrhythms through interactive demonstrations led by Mr. Varun and his colleague, Mr. Siddharth. They had the opportunity to experience the Djembe firsthand, allowing them to feel the instrument’s unique character as they played. The highlight of the session was witnessing the students singing lyrics in the Malinke language, creating a joyful atmosphere as they immersed themselves in this interactive session.
