My name is Sia and I am in 5th grade.. Here I am giving you a summary of my exhibition.

Why did I select my inquiry?

I chose my inquiry because I always loved to DIY lip balms at home. However, I made them with ready-made products like Vaseline. I did not realize that it may not be good for me. Another reason I chose this topic is that I felt horrible that the toxic chemicals in cosmetics and skincare products go into the oceans and water bodies, and all the marine life is getting harmed

My central idea was: Materials used to create products impact our lives and the environment

My lines of Inquiry were:

  1. Safe and unsafe products
  2. Effects of safe and unsafe products on health and the environment
  3. Creating awareness about safer products

My transdisciplinary theme was: Sharing The Planet

My key concepts were: Form, causation, and responsibility

My focus Learner Profile attributes were: Communication, Thinker

My UN Goal was number: 3 title: Good health and well-being

My approaches to learning were

Thinking skills- Analysis and forming decisions. Research skills- Formulating and planning.

Main Conceptual understandings (findings, facts and insights)

During my research, I found out that there are many chemicals and their effects on our health and the environment is a lot worse than I thought it would be.

I used primary resources like interviews from companies that make safe products.

I used secondary resources like websites and my mom’s prior knowledge

Here are some of the resources I created to help spread awareness about my inquiry

Website: https://sites.google.com/misp.org/goodbeauty-siad/ this includes my DIY lip balm recipes and all my other research.

This is an image with all the ingredients to make my lip balms as well as my finished product.

My personal action will be: Always reading the ingredients list to identify any harmful chemicals when buying products.

I ask you to take action by doing the same to be safer.
