Enjoying PYPX

Written by Ardinni, Hayoon, Bi Hyung, Aadi

We started our presentations on March 11th and concluded them on May 17th. The journey was long and tireless, but we made it to the end. On the day the groups were chosen, everyone was filled with excitement, nervousness, and anxiety. The room buzzed with screams, shouts, and whispers as we all wondered who would be in our groups. Finally, the group assignments were revealed, resulting in mixed emotions—some were happy, while others were disappointed. My group consisted of four people: Bi Hyung, Hayoon, Aadi, and myself. Together, we established essential agreements and centered our work on the idea that addressing prejudice can help achieve equality. (Ardinni)

The aspect I enjoyed the most was the research. My key concept was change, and the related concept was accountability, so I had to incorporate these themes. Sometimes, it was challenging to find information that fit my topic of a growth mindset for equality. However, the process was enjoyable because we mainly focused on writing notes, and my team was always there to answer any questions I had. Citing sources took a bit of time, but discovering new and current information was fascinating. We also created a group logo, incorporating everyone’s opinions to design a logo that represented equal rights for all. Our next task was to make slides based on the information I found. I was immensely proud of this because all the facts were a result of my hard work. (Hayoon)

During the Exhibition, I strengthened my communication and open-mindedness skills, both with my group and with the viewers. Additionally, while preparing for the Exhibition, I improved my research and social skills, which benefited both my group and my understanding of the topic. After the Exhibition, I felt more confident in presenting, which has prepared me for moving up to the MYP (Middle Years Programme). The next day, we also presented our Exhibition to learners from Indus and Symbios schools. Although I was exhausted from the Exhibition, the teachers surprised us with a pizza party, which made me happy. Now, I am ready and excited to go to MYP. (Bi Hyung)

Finally on the day of the presentation we could almost smell the fear of all the people. I had the added stress of being MC I was basically announcing in the opening ceremonies. The second we were less stressed we were only presenting to kids of our age, so they won’t really care. This is the story of the exhibition. Maybe it will help you or maybe not but still as I said the exhibition was an enlightening journey that I will remember forever and keep in my heart forever. (Aadi)

A Memorable Experience

Written by Advita, Gabriel, Isaac

In this blog, I am going to talk about my exhibition experience. We started PYPX in August 2023. To start with resources there was a Padlet, some videos of other schools preparing for exhibition, and we visited some presentations of MYP. We started identifying ourselves as who we are as learners. We worked in teams to get used to working in teams. We got our groups. Some were happy, some were sad. Our teachers had tried to make mixed gender groups. We started with the experts after. The experts gave us guidance and helped us get steady. Some experts were quite helpful, but some made us more confused. All the experts were teachers. After the presentations we started our action, it was fun. We did our individual recording and then group recording. (Advita)

At first, we got to choose our UNSDG (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal) to work on. This choice determined our groups, so whoever chose the same UNSDG as you became your group members. I suggest getting to know your friends’ preferences so you can be in the same group. That’s what I did, and I ended up in a group with my best friend. If you want to have more fun, just ask your friend which UNSDG they prefer. The exhibition is enjoyable, especially when you can do fun things like listening to music while working. This can make any school experience more enjoyable and change your perspective, as we don’t usually get to have fun in class for extended periods. The research wasn’t too bad, although finding good information was sometimes challenging. Not all websites provided useful information; some had very little that I could use. However, in the end, everything went well. When it came to presentations, it initially sounded like the hardest part of the PYPX, but it wasn’t that difficult. We had note cards to read from, and the board was behind us, so we could glance back if needed. (Gabriel)

Saving Life Below Water

Our Epic PYPX Journey

Written By Martina, Viraj and Leon

We started our exhibition journey on March 11th and finished on May 17th. We worked hard for 8 weeks. I am proud and confident about what we did. First, we chose our UNSDG (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal). I picked UNSDG 14: Life Below Water. I hoped to be in a group with my friends, but no one else chose Life Below Water. My group ended up being me, Leon, and Viraj. Choosing my action was the hardest part. I had many ideas, but I wasn’t happy with them. At first, I thought about making a fabric trash bin, then a car trash bin, and then a fun car trash bin for kids. After reflecting on my ideas, I did not like any of those. Then, Ambar suggested a trash bin that divides trash. I decided to create a robotic trash bin that separates recycling from waste. Presenting was tough because I was nervous about speaking in front of many people. Parents, students from MIS, Indus, and Symbiosis came to see us. PYPX was fun, and we worked hard. We learned a lot of new things, and it was a great experience for everyone. Even though it was challenging, I really enjoyed PYPX. (Martina)

Our exhibition started many weeks ago. At first, I didn’t care much about it. But once we made the groups, we started working very hard every day. My UNSDG is Life Below Water, which seemed kind of easy. In the first two weeks, we worked on research and creating our group’s name, slogan, and logo. Research was harder; we used websites, e-books, and library books to gather information. We also got help from experts who gave us useful insights. Then we started working on our presentation. I took the lead and made sure everything was organized. When it was time for the presentation, I was confident. We had to present in front of parents, teachers, and MYP 1 students. The next day, we presented to students from Indus and Symbiosis, which was easier because we had already practiced. After the presentations, we had a pizza party, which was fun. Even though the PYPX journey was hard and required a lot of work, it was also enjoyable and rewarding. I felt very proud of myself and my group for all the effort we put in. (Leon)

The PYPX journey is fun but also hard. We work on it during ECA, called PYPX Exhibition. PYPX ECA started in January and will end in May.  In my group, there were three people: Martina, Leon, and me. We started our research in the fourth week and gathered a lot of information from sources like Kiddle and Gale. Experts also motivated us and provided information. The hardest day was the presentation day, where we had to present in front of parents, teachers, and MYP 1 students. The next day, we presented to students from Indus and Symbiosis, which was easier because we had already practiced. Now that PYPX is done, I feel so proud. We worked very hard. PYPX was hard and required a lot of work and research, but after it is done, you feel very proud of yourself. (Viraj)

A New Milestone in P5

Written by Sairrah, Jueun and Ustina(Tina)

The exhibition was a great journey for me. I really enjoyed it and will always remember the experience. At first, it was new and tough, but soon it became amazing. It was the highlight of PYP and an epic adventure. We all learned so much. During the exhibition, I learned many new things, especially skills. I improved my knowledge, vocabulary, and facts, as well as PYP IB components. My voice, eye contact, and confidence got better. I worked quicker, stayed organized, and was creative. My research was focused, and everything was neat and precise. There are many parts of the P5 exhibition: steps, tasks, milestones, and work. We planned, researched, took notes, organized, chose, typed, wrote note cards, practiced, added and removed details, finished touches, stressed, presented, and then had a pizza party! We had Exhibition ECA, experts helped us, and we had a lot of support from our teachers. Throughout these two months, my emotions kept changing. At the beginning, I was extremely excited. Then I felt nervous, anxious, pressured, confused, struggled, tired, stressed, happy, and proud. It was indeed a roller coaster ride, unpredictable. Now that I reflect, I am sad that it is over. It has created a big impact on my learning, and I will cherish it forever. (Sairrah)

PYPX started from March 11th to May 17th. We worked hard for 8 weeks (about 2 months) on our exhibition and had a lot of fun, feeling proud of ourselves and our group. At the beginning, we joined the exhibition ECA to learn more about it. We chose our UNSDG, and I chose UNSDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. We understood our central idea and related concepts and then started researching our topic. We created a presentation to summarize all our information and made note cards to help us. Our group practiced a lot together and even recorded our presentation. We practiced in front of P5 students to prepare for our presentation to a larger audience and chose our actions carefully. On May 16th, we presented in front of our parents and P4 students. Before the presentation, we had an opening ceremony on the basketball court, sang a song, and P5B played instruments. Then, we went to the classroom and presented it to our parents. They were proud of us, and we were happy to present our research to them. On May 17th, we presented to MYP students and students from Symbiosis and Indus. It was fun to present to them, and I hope they enjoyed our presentation. I learned a lot during the exhibition and had so much fun with my first PYPX. Next time, I want to try working with different people. This is a memory I will never forget. (Jueun)

Thinking about my PYP exhibition and group work in P5, I realize this journey has changed me a lot. Even though I joined this class later in the year, by the time of the exhibition, I had discovered something important: this group of people were my friends. They supported me throughout the research process and helped me whenever I had questions or worries. This made our class a kind and accepting place. While working together on the PYP exhibition, I found one of my best friends. The group work we did for the exhibition helped us become close, and it gave me a chance to share my research and be creative. Through this experience, I found my voice and learned how important it is to work together. P5 has been an amazing and unforgettable part of my school life. (Tina)

Journey through the PYPX

Written by Doyoon, Ruhi, Arjun, Bani

When I started the Exhibition, I thought it would be very hard to finish. It was the hardest work in P5, taking 8 weeks to complete. The most difficult part was searching for information because each person needed a lot of details. I liked learning new things about climate change during the PYPX. I did well in the presentation because of my teacher’s feedback, my team, and my note cards. The hardest part was making PowerPoint. I felt embarrassed presenting in front of P4 kids and students from other schools. I liked this work because it improved my communication and social skills. After finishing the exhibition, we had a pizza party with classmates. If I get another chance, I think I could do even better. My teacher’s feedback was the most helpful part, and without it, I don’t think I could have done well. (Doyoon)

The PYP X, also known as the PYP 5 exhibition, involves group communication and creating presentations based on research. My group was the “ECO ACTIVISTS,” focused on UNSDG 13, climate action. The three most important parts of the PYP X journey were discovering their group and UNSDG, creating their action, which was a petition against crop burning that creates a lot of pollution, and presenting my findings in front of my parents. Despite initial doubts, the experience was fun and memorable. PYPX is a crucial part of PYP journey, fostering skills in research, collaboration, and presentation. Overall, I found the experience amazing and unforgettable, shaping my understanding of real-world issues and my role in addressing them. (Ruhi)

In PYPX, with my group members, we chose a UNSDG and started researching our chosen topic. After gathering information, I added my understanding to the slides. We practiced extensively and recorded our presentation. We presented our understanding in front of parents, the MIS community, and other schools such as Indus and Symbiosis. Despite the challenges, PYPX is rewarding and leaves you feeling proud. It’s a memorable experience that fosters new friendships and collaboration. (Arjun)

My PYPX journey began with the Exhibition ECA in January, lasting around 20 weeks, alongside 8 weeks of exhibition. In groups, we developed our Central Idea, Key Concept questions, and Lines of Inquiry, combining our ideas to finalize them. Expert Meetings involved presenting our research, receiving feedback, and filling in Meeting Minutes. Action Planning followed, where we watched action videos and decided on our course, executing it and reflecting afterward. On the presentation day, we showcased our knowledge, utilizing strategies like big fonts and speaking clearly. My favorite parts were setting up boards and presenting to parents, giving me a better understanding of the world and teamwork skills. Through this journey, I learned teamwork and gained a broader perspective. My advice for future learners is to share your opinions and enjoy the experience. (Bani)
