P5 Exhibition – Inquiry into The Impact of Music

 

Introduction:

Hello, my name is Océane and I’m 10 years old. I’m a P5 student. My Inquiry is: how music impacts feelings and emotions.

Since I was 6 years old I started singing, music was always nearby. Now I listen to music at least 3 times a day. My inquiry connects to SDG n°3 (Good Health and Well-being) Music is sound and noise but it has other uses too. Music therapy is often used to help people who are in difficulties, problems like deafness, blindness, and muteness can be dealt with, by using music this way music impacts our well-being.

I chose my inquiry because music is my passion. I have grown up with music. Everyday at lunch or dinner I listen to music. When I listened to music I felt like I was impacted by music, that’s when I decided to inquire more into the topic.

My central idea was: Music expresses and impacts our feelings and self-expression.

My lines of Inquiry were:

  • Evolution of Music
  • Different types of music impact us differently
  • Music as a way to take action on global issues.

My transdisciplinary theme was How we express ourselves. My inquiry connects to this theme because we can use music to express ourselves. Music impacts our feelings and self-expression.

My key concepts were:

  1. Change
  2. Causation
  3. Responsibility

My focus Learner Profile attributes were:

Knowledgeable: I have gained new knowledge about how music impacts our lives and can take action because of that.

Inquirer: I have been curious to find out more about music and how it impacts emotions and feelings and have conducted research

UN SD Goal 3 Good Health and Wellbeing: The Impact of Music connects to ‘Good Health and Wellbeing’ because your feelings and emotions are part of your mental health that contributes to your well being. When you are sad, it impacts your mind and your body. You are less likely to feel like working or interacting with other people. your mind.              

My approaches to learning were the Self Management Skills

Organization: I have organized my time, research and presentation products like my website and slide presentations. I believe that this is the skill I focused more on during the exhibition.

Perseverance: I showed commitment in my exhibition as I have gone through problems and difficulties. I found solutions and I showed commitment in making my website independently.  website.

Impact of music connects to our MIS Mission. Impact of music can help in Promoting learning and celebrating diversity. Music therapy is a way to teach younger kids that are in difficulties. Music therapy is a way to teach people even if they have problems. Music celebrates diversity because music is different for one country or another. Every country has a different culture, and they have different music too!

During my research I found out

  • Music is important in a balanced life
  • Music should be listened to at least twice a day
  • Music helps you think.
  • Music helps you overcome feelings and emotions that might struggle you.
  • Music impacts your feelings and emotions.
  • Some Music makes you want to dance. The impact comes from the BPM (beat per minute) or the melody.

Primary Source: I used primary resources …My mentor, my teachers, and my family members.

I interviewed Mr.Victor, Ms.Charmaine, Mr.Underhill, Ms.Praveeta, and My GrandMother to gather primary sources of information.

I used videos, images, and websites as secondary sources of information.
