Visit to the handmade paper institute- Paper Tells

PYP 2 has been inquiring into Reducing and Reusing to support the sustainability of the Earth. We visited Paper Tells to inquire into how cloth can be recycled to make paper, reducing the need to cut trees. The students had a wonderful time and learned a lot! If you would like to read more please see the blog link to their reports.

Field trip to Paper Tells

Today I went on a field trip. And the name was Paper Tells. I went with everyone in my class. When I was in the bus I was so excited. I sat with Doyoung. Then I ate my snack and played a game with Doyoung. Later I was in paper factory it was beautiful. First I buyed a notebook with my money. Then I saw how to make handmade paper. First ladies put the clean cloth in a box and put the dirty cloth outside. Next the man put cloth into machine and the machine make it to very small cloth. Third they wash (soak) the cloth. Then they put dye on the cloth and made colour. Later they made a single piece then a cloth to keep the fibres in place. Later they made it all together and squeeze the water. After that the man take the wet paper. Later the lady carry the paper. Next the man put the paper up and dry it. And they put the paper above the metal sheets put it in the machine and the machine roll it. When it’s done the paper comes out. Then they print the paper with the colour oil. And they embroidery also. Finally they check its good or bad. They were reducing and reusing and recycling.

Field trip to Paper tells factory

On Thursday I went to a paper factory. After 1 hour or 2 I had reached. I saw that there was cloth. We took a photo. First they got cotton; the cotton was sorted by colours. Then with the help of a machine the cotton was broken. They soaked it overnight. Next the cotton breaks down into really fine fibers. The people can now work with evenly coloured fibers. They lay the fibers on a metallic tray. They used a cloth to keep the fibers in place. They stack the layers on top of other layers of the same colour of fiber. Press the layers. Some other people separate the paper. The paper must be hung for 24 hours to dry. They iron the paper now they can screen print. We went back to school. This process is connected to our unit because it is saving our planet and the unit is sharing the planet. They did not cut trees. Mr. Joshi (the founder of the institute) did not cut down trees instead he used cloth. So he basically saved many animals and trees.

. Field trip to Paper tells

First we got on to the bus at 8:45. In the bus I sat with Narin at the front seat. When we reached we went in and bought somethings. Next we went into the factory and we saw a woman separating the fabrics by taking out the dirty things. After that they shredded the fabric. (It looked) like a snow. Afterwards they mixed the shredded fabric with water. Then they made into huge sheets of paper and squeezed out the water with a machine and dried it out. After drying it they put the paper between two metallic sheets and put it in a machine and made it smooth. They stack it nicely and sell it to people. If they want to print something you put dye on something and then you put it on another sheet you could print something.

I learned that paper is also made out of fabric and they are not wasting trees.
